This can happen with aging, changes in weight, pregnancy and breast feeding. And sometimes, breasts just develop this way. The determination of whether your breasts are drooping depends on the location of the nipple, in relation to the breast fold. If your nipple is below the breast fold, then you have breast droop, or ptosis. The only way to lift breast that have ptosis, is to perform a breast lift, or mastopexy. A breast lift, lifts the breast into a more youthful position, by carefully removing skin and reshaping the breast tissue. The amount of skin removal and breast tissue re-shaping will depend on the amount of breast ptosis that you have. The scars will depend on the amount of skin removal and can be range from a scar just around the areola, a “lollipop”, and an “anchor”. The scars will fade over time and most patients feel that the scars are worth the improvement in breast shape Remember a breast lift simply lifts the breasts. It does not make the breasts fuller. In fact, sometimes lifted breasts can appear smaller even though no breast tissue is removed. This is because the breast tissue is held tighter. If desire your breasts to be lifted AND fuller, a breast implant can also be added at the same time. Breast Lift is performed under general anesthesia in my fully accredited office operating suite under general anesthesia. It takes approximately 2 hours. After a short stay in our recovery room, you are able to go home. There is generally little pain associated with a breast lift and most people are able to resume normal activities in about 10 days.
