| Video Discription | Today, we present the case of a 27-year-old female patient who underwent surgical treatment for a colloid cyst of the third ventricle. The patient initially presented with left occipital headaches persisting for six months. Over the last week, her symptoms had progressed to include dizziness, severe gait instability, and paresthesias in both hands. An MRI revealed dilation of the left lateral ventricle with midline shift due to a colloid cyst obstructing the foramen of Monro, along with a pineal cyst. Given her worsening symptoms, including difficulty eating and weight loss due to a persistent sensation of a lump in her throat, surgical intervention was performed. Prof. Feigl, MD, PhD, successfully removed the colloid cyst using a navigated endoscopic approach. The minimally invasive procedure was performed through the left lateral ventricle under continuous neurophysiological monitoring. Histopathology confirmed the diagnosis of a colloid cyst with no signs of malignancy. The patient’s symptoms have significantly regressed postoperatively, and her recovery is progressing well. This case highlights the importance of early detection, precise imaging, and advanced minimally invasive techniques in achieving optimal outcomes for challenging intracranial pathologies. |
