A young man who went by the name “Lyle Stevik” had been hiding his true identity at the time of his death – a mystery police believed impossible to solve, until 20 years later when amateur internet sleuths on Reddit finally cracked the case.
September 17, 2001.
It was the first Monday following one of the most tragic events in recent memory. But while everyone watched the aftermath of this national tragedy, a mysterious case was quietly taking shape in the remote town of Amanda Park, Washington. At the Lake Quinault Inn.
Business was slow – in fact, the maid only had one room to clean that morning. But the guest in room #5 was once again not responding to her. She had already knocked at the door several times, but was always met with silence from the other side. Had the guest already left? Did he skip out on payment?
Either way, she needed to at least offer to clean the room. And so, when a few more knocks went unanswered, she took out her keys, opened the door, and apprehensively stepped inside. But what she found was a scene far worse than anything she had ever imagined.
The guest hadn’t left, but he also would not be checking out.
