“No One Heard Their Cries: Panchkula Family of 7 Dies by Suicide as Debt Crushes All Hope”
Panchkula, Haryana | May 27, 2025
In a deeply heartbreaking and shocking incident, seven members of the same family were found dead inside a parked car in Panchkula’s Sector 27 on Monday morning. The tragedy has stunned the local community and raised troubling questions about mental health, financial pressure, and the silence that often surrounds personal crises.
The deceased were identified as members of the Mittal family, headed by 42-year-old Praveen Mittal, a local businessman. Alongside him were his wife, elderly parents, and three children — a whole family wiped out in what police have confirmed to be a mass suicide. Initial investigations reveal that all seven had consumed poison inside the vehicle.
A handwritten suicide note, reportedly penned by Praveen Mittal, was found inside the car. In it, he took full responsibility for the decision and explained that the family had been going through unbearable financial difficulties for years. Praveen mentioned debts estimated to be between ₹15 to ₹20 crore, owed to multiple lenders, and expressed despair at the constant harassment and threats the family had been facing. The note read, in part, “We tried everything. We approached people for help. But no one came through. We were left with no other way.”
Just days before the tragedy, the family had attended a spiritual event organized by Bageshwar Dham in an apparent final attempt to seek peace and strength. Sources close to the family say they returned home appearing composed — giving no indication of what they were planning.
According to investigators, the car was parked near the family’s home around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday night. The engine was off, and the windows rolled up. The bodies were discovered in the early hours of Monday after concerned relatives couldn’t contact them and alerted authorities.
What makes the incident even more painful is that neighbors and acquaintances described the family as “quiet, respectful, and well-liked.” Many expressed disbelief that such a horrific decision could be taken without anyone noticing the warning signs. “We had no idea they were struggling like this,” said a neighbor. “They never spoke of their problems. They always had a smile.”
Police are now verifying financial records and contacting those named in the suicide note. Meanwhile, postmortem reports are underway to confirm the cause of death, though preliminary findings point to poisoning.
This incident has sparked widespread discussion on the urgent need for stronger mental health support, open conversations around financial strain, and more accessible counseling services. Experts have emphasized that situations like these don’t develop overnight and that families in crisis often suffer in silence due to stigma, shame, or fear of judgment.
The Panchkula district administration has urged the public to come forward if they or anyone they know is experiencing emotional or financial distress. “There is help available. You are not alone,” said a senior official.
For now, however, the silence left behind by the Mittal family is deafening — a tragic reminder of what can happen when people feel they have nowhere to turn.
